Built After Losing Someone to Diabetes

My grandfather passed away from complications of diabetes. That loss made me pay closer attention to the everyday work of tracking food, glucose, and treatment. I started building NutriScan to make those records easier to keep together and review.

Nuv Ahuja

Founder and iOS Developer, NutriScan

This is the story behind NutriScan. If you'd like to learn more about who built the app, you can view Nuv's personal portfolio or find him on LinkedIn.

Meals, glucose readings, and treatment entries are easier to understand when they can be reviewed together. I built NutriScan to help people keep that context in one record.

NutriScan is for the person who was just diagnosed and has no idea where to start. For the Type 1 veteran who's tired of juggling four different apps. For the person managing Type 2 or pre-diabetes who wants to review meal entries alongside their readings. For a family member helping someone keep a clearer record. NutriScan brings those entries together for review.

Built with and for people managing Type 1, Type 2, pre-diabetes, and everyday nutrition.

Your records stay in your account. You can request an export or deletion of your data through the app or by contacting support.

AI estimates are clearly presented for review and editing before they become part of your record.

Our Mission

NutriScan exists to make everyday nutrition and diabetes tracking feel less fragmented. A meal, a glucose reading, movement, and a treatment entry belong in one understandable story - not scattered across separate notes and apps.

We focus on reducing the effort of recording and reviewing that story. NutriScan helps people capture information, notice context, and arrive at conversations with their care team with a clearer record of what happened between appointments.

That mission includes access. The food finder offers free national food directories and nearby results for signed-in users, while plain-language resources make common topics easier to approach.

What NutriScan is

A nutrition, tracking, and education tool that helps you keep your own records organized.

What NutriScan is not

A medical device, emergency service, or substitute for advice from your clinician. It does not calculate or recommend insulin doses.

Made for Different Ways of Managing Health

There is no single diabetes day, meal routine, or reason to track nutrition.

People managing diabetes

Support for Type 1, Type 2, and prediabetes, with room for the different tools and routines each person uses.

Caregivers and families

Clearer shared context through local, read-only Care View and practical resources for supportive conversations.

Everyday nutrition users

Flexible meal and movement tracking for people who want to understand their habits without a diabetes-first setup.

A Small, Hands-On Team

NutriScan is built by a small team focused on the details of day-to-day diabetes and nutrition management - not a large company treating it as one feature among many.

We design for real moments: a busy lunch, a reading you want to remember, a caregiver reviewing the day beside you, or a grocery decision shaped by cost and availability.

Our approach is practical and transparent. Estimates should be editable, permissions should be understandable, and limitations should be stated plainly.

Feedback from people using NutriScan helps shape what comes next. The goal is not more complexity - it is a calmer tool that earns a place in your routine.

What NutriScan Includes

Understanding Type 1 & Type 2 Diabetes

Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune condition where the pancreas stops producing insulin, the hormone that lets the body turn food into energy. It isn't linked to diet or lifestyle, it can develop at any age, and it isn't preventable or curable - people with T1D need insulin for life, delivered by injection or pump.

Type 2 diabetes and pre-diabetes work differently: the body still makes insulin but doesn't use it well, and management often blends food choices, movement, oral medication, and sometimes insulin. NutriScan supports both paths - carb estimates and glucose context for everyone, with treatment logging for insulin users and medication logging and educational food resources for everyone else.

Managing it well means constant decision-making: counting carbs at every meal, adjusting to it, and watching for highs and lows that can happen with little warning. There's no day off. (This is general education, not medical advice - always follow guidance from your endocrinologist or diabetes care team.)
